July sunshine

Gullkistan artists for july were the following.

At the end of the month there was an exhibition and readings as seen on the following photos.

MCC photography course

Photography artist and professor Jasna Bogdanovska is a former residency artist of Gullkistan. She brought her students at Monroe Community College in Rochester NY for a 9 day course called “Photographic Explorations of Culture, Landscape and Myth in Iceland”.

In june the days are endless and the weather was perfect. The students had lectures on Icelandic art and culture, they worked hard on their projects, travelled and enjoyed themselves hiking and having a good time. Along with the group were members of MCC staff and board of directors.

Shorter stays

In june we invited those who only can spare time for shorter periods. We had many great enthusiastic artists who all got a lot of work done. One even made it all around the lake in the annual Golden Sprint run, our first guest to do so!

Adrienne Callander who stayed at Gullkistan in 2013 returned with a fellow artist for a special project.

In june we also had a group from MCC and professor Jasna Bogdanovska a former Gullkistan artist (see more in another post). She met with Margery Amdur who came for a short visit, also a former guest who has brought us two school groups from Rutgers University in New Jersey. What a june it was!

Gullkistan on the ring road!

May is the month when everything wakes up in nature. The artists work hard and travel and this time some of them met by coincidence at Skógarfoss.

17. júní 2016

June 17th has always played a special part in the Gullkistan history. in 1995 we opened our first art festival in Laugarvatn and 10 years later in 2005 our second one.

This year it was special. Gullkistan was awarded the community culture award which is a great honor for us. On this day we have often put on our national costumes and now there certainly was a reason to do so. Alda attended the reward ceremony, Kristveig was in Reykjavík celebrating her sons graduation from the Art Academy!

Writers, composers and photo catchers

February, march and april activities are intence as the days get longer. Charlotte Simpson worked on her writings at Gullkistan for two monts. She took a day off to visit the local high school, ML, to talk about her work. One of many such generous acts by our guests, much appreciated by the local community.

January – out of darkness

img_2815January is a favourite! And so are also the ones who brave it! We even have visitors from far away on a return to Iceland travel trip and we discover presents that were left to be found, much later…

Photo catch up from 2015

2015 was a big year for us. We had many great artists with us working and sharing their creative energy in many different ways. We had a big exhibition to celebrate our 20 year anniversary. We also moved out of Eyvindartunga after 5 wonderful years there and settled with all our activities in the Center, cuddled by the mountain side with a beautiful view over the lake and the whole of south Iceland in front of us. Winter was beautiful as always and every moment was cherished.
